Model Settings

Each Model has a variety of settings which can be modified from the Model editing screen.

The “Nested?” option specifies whether this Model forms a hierarchical relationship with itself. If a Model is nested, any content created from this Model has the ability to have “children” of the same type, and has a reference to a “parent” object which is reciprocal to the “children” relationship. Any item that is a child of another nestable object has its “parent” reference automatically set to that object and vice versa. A nested Model is given additional properties such as “children” and “parent” which are available through the API or in templates.

The “Displayed in List?” option, which is selected by default, can be used to filter out Models from being shown in the content menu on the left. This is usually used for Models that are derivatives of other Model’s, or are so closely linked that they are usually administered through the main Model rather than directly. Use your discretion and organizational sense when hiding Models; it can help reduce clutter for larger, more Model-heavy sites.

The other options all relate to the API, and govern how access to the API is granted. See the User Manual section on the Interface API for more information on these options and how they affect the use of the API.
